Futaba-en produces hand dyed silk kimonos in the traditional
manner concentrating on two styles -Edo Komon
and Edo Sarasa. The former dates from
the Muromachi Period and was initially worn
only by samurai, hence the subdued shades
and traditional Japanese motifs. Edo Sarasa,
however, was an imitation of the exuberant
batiks coming to Japan along the Silk Road.
